Open To The Public! Everyone is Welcome! Free Parking! Celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month with KCSM. Our theme, "Passing the Torch," honors jazz's tradition and its influence on generations of musicians. Whether you're a jazz enthusiast or new to the genre, there's something for everyone. Join KCSM at the KCSM studio in the lower level of the CSM Library (Building 9) for a day of music, culture, and celebration with light refreshments.

11:55am    Welcome: Dr. Robert Franklin

12:00pm    Performance: St. Ignatius School, San FranciscoThe St. Ignatius Jazz Band plays music in the Big Band jazz tradition, with 6 horns accompanied by a full rhythm section.  The group often focuses on playing arrangements from classic recordings and composers and has even performed original songs written by members of the ensemble.  The SI Jazz Band is directed by Mr. Galen Green, who is in his 12th year at the school.

1:00pm    Performance: The CSM Big BandUnder the direction of Michael Mitchell – is excited and honored to perform a program of special selections at this year’s KSCM Jazz Festival, including music from the Thad Jones and Mel Lewis Orchestra, Quincy Jones, and the Count Basie Orchestra.

2:00pm    Performance: Larry Vuckovich with Kai LyonsLarry Vuckovich will be joined by his favorite guitarist, Kai Lyons to present a program featuring music written and inspired by some of the great jazz masters Larry worked with from the 50s and through the decades since taking the audience on a journey through Larry's musical history.

3:00pm    Performance: San Francisco Conservatory of MusicThe Roots, Jazz and American Music Program (RJAM) at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music is a one-of-a-kind undergraduate degree program utilizing an innovative apprenticeship model to mentor young artists aspiring to professional careers in jazz and commercial music. Under the direction of drummer and SFCM professor Akira Tana, the group includes Tania Cosma - drums, Carlo Rabano - trombone, Kira Agrell - alto saxophone and bass clarinet, Sean Walters McDonald - bass and Tania Cosma on drums.
