On Saturday night Kathleen Harris, KCSM Development Director, headed to the Golden Gate Theatre to soak in the sounds of live jazz from one of KCSMs favorites, Kamasi Washington, who delivered a powerful performance that had the crowd on its feet. After the show, Kathleen captured a special moment: Karen, a devoted KCSM fan, reaching out to thank Kamasi for the music that has meant so much to her. This simple handshake between artist and listener captures what KCSM is all about—real connections, shared love of jazz, and a community that stretches from the airwaves to the concert hall. A moment of pure jazz joy that reflects KCSMs unequaled connection to the Bay Area jazz scene.

Kathleen said it was a wonderful show — very appreciative audience. Performers were from Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France and Hungary. It was a lot of fun with great and enthusiastic crowd, and the music was delicious. The weather was lovely and balmy in the city. Kathleen also noted that she was promoted to Mistress - LOL!

On Saturday July 26th the incomparable Sonny Buxton presented his last broadcast at KCSM JAZZ 91. With a 60-plus year career in broadcast media, Sonny decided to hang up his headphones to retire at the age of 88 from our Saturday Mid-Day Jazz Show. It was bittersweet but the response was overwhelming and filled with appreciation and well wishes. It was a gracious exit for a class act! In recent weeks we have seen the retirements of Dick Conte and Michael Burman as well as the untimely passing of Leslie Stovall from KCSM JAZZ 91 airwaves. Their presence is very much missed but the team at JAZZ 91 is here to serve our audience with the best in Jazz. (click the story subject line to see the new lineup)

If you wish to attend the Memorial for Leslie, please use this link: https://www.youtube.com/live/Wzgxn5QVYYc?si=2d_SGSY5-ZccfcQk Here at KCSM, we lost someone very special—our friend and longtime host Leslie Stoval. If you’ve ever tuned in and found yourself carried away by just the right song, there’s a good chance Leslie was behind the mic. She had an incredible way of blending voice and music—thoughtful, soulful, and always from the heart. Her broadcasts weren’t just playlists—they were experiences. And for so many of us, she was a familiar presence we came to count on. We’ll miss her deeply. But her spirit—like the music she loved—keeps playing on.
