THE MILES DAVIS RADIO PROJECT
The Miles Davis Radio Project is a milestone in radio biography and is a definitive record of the career of this important musician. Producer Steve Rowland in his vision created the most detailed documentary ever produced on one musician. Done at a time when Miles was writing his autobiography, the production features nearly 100 interviews, rare music & archival tapes, exclusive interview material with Miles, rare recordings of him rehearsing his band in preparation for a tour and never-before-released outtakes from some of his classic works.
The series includes important broadcast “firsts” like a newly discovered interview with Charlie Parker and the long-sought-after first recording with John Coltrane. Some of the music industry’s most renowned figures, including Dizzy Gillespie, Roberta Flack, Quincy Jones and Carlos Santana pay tribute to one of this country’s greatest musicians.
The Miles Davis Radio Project, produced by Steve Rowland with Quincy Troupe and Jay Allison, writers Larry Abrams, Steve Rowland and Jay Allison and hosted by Danny Glover, is a milestone in radio biography destined to become the definitive record of the career of this important musician. After its initial broadcast, this acclaimed series won a Peabody Award in 1991, a Prix-Italia award, a Major Armstrong award, among others.
KCSM JAZZ 91 would like to thank Steve Rowland for giving us exclusive re-broadcast rights to share this important work with you, our listeners.
