Joe Romagna

The Jazz Oasis (Saturday)

Joe Romagna was inspired to get into broadcasting by his late uncle, Paul Romagna. Paul had been an aspiring broadcaster who studied at the College of San Mateo under Dan Odom and worked at several Bay Area radio stations, including KCSM back in the 1960s. Sadly, his life was cut short after a fire at a local radio station.

Following his uncle's footsteps, Joe enrolled in the broadcasting program at the College of San Mateo. He took an Introduction to Jazz class taught by jazz educator and trumpet player Fred Berry and was hooked. He started at KCSM in 1995 providing news updates for A Morning Cup of Jazz. Joe hosted Jazz After Hours and Evening Jazz. He would be partnered with the Man on the Street, Mal Sharpe and co-host Back on Basin Street.

Joe later worked at 960 AM KABL where he would host the KABL Swing Lounge, the midday show, and serve as a fill-in for legendary announcers, Jim Lange, Mike Cleary, and Carter B. Smith. His time in radio has also included time as a producer for K101's For Lovers Only, hosting big band programming at 89.1 KCEA and Totally 80s Weekend at Mix 106.5 KEZR.

For the past 20 years, Joe has worked in education as an elementary school teacher, assistant principal, and principal. He is now helping aspiring and new administrators obtain and clear their administrative credentials. He is excited to return to KCSM and it's one of a kind jazz programming.
