| Adam Theis (2009) | |
|---|---|
| For most of his adult life, Adam Theis has played several roles here in the Bay Area: he's a highly energized organizer, a composer and a player of multiple instruments (his arsenal begins with his main axe, the trombone, and now includes didgeridoo). Raised in Santa Rosa, he graduated from Sonoma State, and helped to raise awareness of jazz music in the north bay first.
Adam started putting together groups that eventually became known under the collective umbrella of Jazz Mafia: The Realistic Orchestra, Cannonball, The Shotgun Wedding Quintet, Hip-Hop Symphony, Supertaster, Spaceheater, and lots more. He's performed with hundreds now of the best in the Bay Area, as well as national acts. In 2008 Adam's life took a different direction when he was awarded a Gerbode Foundation/Hewlett Foundation Emerging Composers grant. He composed new music for a one-hour concert featuring a 50-piece extension of the Jazz Mafia with hip-hop and electronic music, strings and brass, which premiered in April 2009 at the Palace of Fine Arts as part of the SFJAZZ Spring Season. |
