| Ken Berman (2008) | |
|---|---|
| Pianist Ken Berman has played stages from Carnegie Hall in New York City, where he was born, to Yoshi’s in San Francisco, where he now lives. He has been compared with both Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, and Le Monde of Paris (another city where he’s played) has called his style “fluid and erudite”.
Like Evans and Jarrett, he favors the piano trio, for which format he’s adept at composing as well as playing: almost half of his first recording and the entirety of his second consisted of originals, and expectations are that his third will, likewise. Educationally, he continues to be bi-coastal: he’s studied at Berklee School of Music in Boston, and in California has taught at Stanford and at UC Berkeley, where he’s on the music faculty. |
